Kyrgyzstan has secured duty-free import of sugar and cocoa until 2027

At a recent meeting of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Council in Moscow, a number of strategic initiatives aimed at supporting the agricultural sector of Kyrgyzstan were adopted. One of the main outcomes achieved by the delegation led by First Deputy Prime Minister Daniyar Amangeldiev was the receipt of a tariff concession for the import of 20,000 tons of raw cane sugar. This measure, effective until the end of 2026, will allow local producers to operate with maximum efficiency and provide the population with stable prices for sugar.

A significant step for the entire union was the expansion of the financial support program for cooperation. Now, preferential financing from the EAEU budget, previously intended only for the industrial sector, has also become available for joint initiatives in the agro-industrial complex. This decision will open new horizons for the creation of intergovernmental productions, accelerated import substitution, and a significant increase in the export potential of Kyrgyz processors.

In addition to financial measures, the EEC Council also approved tax incentives for the confectionery industry: until spring 2027, the import of cocoa butter and cocoa paste will be exempt from duties. These measures will not only support local confectioners in a competitive environment but also help curb price increases for products. Stricter control in the phytosanitary area will complement these initiatives, cleansing the market of unscrupulous participants and ensuring the safety of goods. The adopted package of decisions confirms the commitment to create an independent and sustainable food system, in which the interests of processors and consumers in Kyrgyzstan will be protected at a high international level.
