Residents of Afghanistan ask authorities to rein in prices for coal and firewood

In the southeastern province of Khost, Afghanistan, residents are facing a sharp increase in fuel prices, creating serious problems for families with limited financial means. According to information provided by Amu.tv, the cost of firewood and coal this winter season has reached levels that many families cannot afford to heat their homes.

The price for one harvar (approximately 560 kg) of firewood or coal has risen to 10,000 afghanis (about 140 US dollars). In the cold conditions, such expenses have become unbearable for most of the population. Additionally, gas prices have also significantly increased, further exacerbating the financial situation of households.

The situation is complicated by the fact that the standard of living does not match the income levels. Many workers in Khost earn only 50-100 afghanis a day.

“I spend all day on my bicycle, and my earnings range from 50 to 100 afghanis. You can't buy anything with that money,” shares one local resident, highlighting the serious financial difficulties.

Local residents are appealing to the "Taliban" government to strengthen price controls and stop speculation. They warn that if the situation does not change and prices do not decrease, the region may face a serious humanitarian crisis, as many will not be able to survive the winter months in unheated homes.
