In 2024, the new terminal of the airport served 1.38 million passengers, which is a 36.6% increase compared to the previous year. This growth more than doubles the results of another rapidly growing airport, Olbia in Italy, where passenger traffic increased by 18.4%.
According to reports from Uzbek media, the airport's success has been made possible thanks to the efforts of entrepreneur Bakhtier Fazilov and his collaboration with the government under the first major state program for private investment in aviation. The new terminal, which opened in early 2022, continues to demonstrate stable growth in passenger traffic.
The number of takeoffs and landings increased by 23%. The airport now serves three domestic and 23 international destinations. Among the new routes are flights to Xi'an (China), Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt), and Turkestan (Kazakhstan), as well as to Russian cities such as Tyumen, Nizhny Novgorod, and Irkutsk.
Overall, airports in Europe and Central Asia have surpassed pre-pandemic levels of passenger traffic, reaching 2.5 billion passengers.
