Iran has imposed a temporary ban on the export of all food products: Dushanbe is concerned
The authorities in Tehran link this decision to the need to prevent a possible shortage and rising prices for essential consumer goods amid the conflict with the USA and Israel.
Iran aims to ensure food security in the domestic market to avoid potential price increases for products.
Supplies from Iran are crucial for Tajikistan, and any changes in these flows could negatively impact the country's food security, as reported by local media.
In 2025, Tajikistan imported dairy products worth over $2 million, including: condensed milk (302 tons), cream, whey (263 tons), butter (123 tons), and cottage cheese.
The import of fruits and vegetables is also significant. In 2025, Tajikistan received over 2,600 tons of oranges and about 1,000 tons of watermelons.
Popular items include apples (over 2,600 tons), kiwi (1,300 tons), tomatoes, and potatoes.
Additionally, Iran actively supplies nuts, such as cashews (47 tons), walnuts, almonds, and pistachios. In 2025, over 180 tons of nuts were imported from this country.
Iran is also important as a supplier of sugar and spices. In 2025, Tajikistan received over 3,300 tons of white sugar and a similar amount of confectionery, as well as spices and tea.
Trade relations between Tajikistan and Iran have significantly strengthened over the past five years. In 2025, the trade turnover reached a record level of $484 million, which is four times higher than the figures for 2021, when it was only $121 million.
Tensions continue to rise in the Middle East due to the Israeli and U.S. operation called "Lion's Roar," which has been ongoing for six days.
