In 2025, Kyrgyzstan significantly reduced its purchases of walnuts from China. According to the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China, the volume of imports of this product fell by 32% compared to 2024.
If in 2024 the physical volume of supplies was 42.2 thousand tons, in 2025 it decreased to 28.7 thousand tons. The reduction in volumes also affected the monetary value: the total amount of purchased walnuts was 99.9 million dollars, which is 21.2% lower than the previous year.
Experts note that although the decline in value was less significant than the reduction in volumes, this is related to current market prices. During the reporting period, the average prices for Chinese walnuts were as follows:
In shell: from $1.5 to $2 per kilogram. Shelled (kernels): from $3.9 to $5 per kilogram.
Analysts attribute this trend to possible saturation of the domestic market, an increase in local production in Kyrgyzstan, or changes in trade flows in the region. Nevertheless, despite the noticeable decline in import activity last year, China remains the main supplier of this category of goods.
