Entrepreneurs appealed to the president and deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh
In Kyrgyzstan, the business community expressed dissatisfaction with the initiative of the Ministry of Health regarding the increase in prices for sugary drinks and snacks, including chips and crackers, through an increase in excise taxes. The Association for the Development of the Agro-Industrial Complex of the Kyrgyz Republic sent an open letter to the president, prime minister, and deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh.
In their appeal, entrepreneurs emphasized that the proposed measures could negatively affect the processing industry, farmers' incomes, and the overall competitiveness of domestic products. While they support initiatives aimed at improving public health, entrepreneurs insist on the need for a comprehensive analysis of the economic and social consequences of such changes for the industry. The increase in excise taxes could also hinder the implementation of the presidential decree on the development of the agro-industrial complex, which may lead to higher product prices and a reduction in the purchase of agricultural raw materials from farmers.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Health proposed increasing excise taxes on sugary drinks and snacks to reduce their consumption, especially among children. The ministry stated that these measures are aimed at caring for the health of citizens. The discussion of these initiatives involved representatives of government agencies and international organizations.
