Kyrgyzstan has joined the GOST for potato chips, first introduced in Russia
Starting April 1, 2026, a new GOST regarding potato chips will come into effect in Russia. Six post-Soviet countries, including Kyrgyzstan, have joined this standard, as reported by the press service of Rosstandart.

Although potato chips are a popular product, until recently there was no single document that established requirements for this product, the release notes.

The new standard covers chips made from natural potatoes or their processed products, using thermal processing or extrusion, as well as baked or fried in oil or without it. Chips must be hermetically sealed and intended for immediate consumption.

The GOST also establishes requirements for the appearance, color, aroma, and taste of the chips, as well as the permissible content of fat and food salt.

Chips produced in accordance with the GOST must be crispy and crumbly, with a characteristic taste and aroma depending on the additives used. In chips made from natural potatoes, the fat content must not exceed 45%, while for chips made from processed potato products, this figure is limited to 35%.

The standard for chips has also been joined by Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
