According to Azim Moldokerimov, the coordinator of the CASA-1000 project implementation group, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are at the stage of readiness to implement this project. This was announced on the air of "Birinchi Radio".

In Kyrgyzstan, 456 kilometers of power transmission lines (PTL) will be laid, starting from the "Datka" substation in the Jalal-Abad region and passing through the Osh and Batken regions. In Tajikistan, 29 kilometers of PTL are planned.

The construction of the Sughd – Datka (500 kilovolt) power transmission line was launched in March 2025 by the presidents of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, Emomali Rahmon and Sadyr Japarov, which ensured the connection of the energy systems of both countries.

“Unfortunately, in Afghanistan, the construction of the line has not yet been completed, as it was halted due to a change in power. After the return of the Taliban, donors stopped funding, but since July 2025, work has resumed and is actively ongoing. The most challenging section is in Afghanistan, where Indian companies are the contractors. Thus, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are ready for the project, and we expect the completion of work from Afghanistan,” noted Azim Moldokerimov.

The CASA-1000 project is a regional initiative aimed at exporting electricity from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan by connecting the energy systems of Central and South Asia.

The project was initiated in 2016, and its goal is to ensure the transmission of 1,300 megawatts of surplus electricity from these countries to markets with high electricity demand in South Asia through the creation of new energy infrastructure.
