According to the new presidential decree, foreigners who have achieved outstanding results in science, industry, culture, and sports will be able to obtain the status of "of interest to the Russian Federation." This program for attracting such specialists will be implemented for the first time under the control of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Agency for Strategic Initiatives.
Starting from April 15, 2026, citizens of other countries will be able to apply for this status. This primarily concerns scientists and those who possess in-demand skills or have contributed to the economy, defense, and security of Russia. At the initial stage, the process will be initiated through an operator company selected by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
After the request is approved, a police verification will be conducted, and the final decision will be made by the commission on citizenship under the president. The entire process will take from 95 to 125 days. Individuals who receive the new status, as well as their families, will be able to arrange temporary residence without the need to pass a Russian language exam, and no additional documents will be required for employment.
