The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Presidential Administration of Kyrgyzstan, Adylbek Kasymaliev, congratulated the people of the country on International Mountain Day.
In his greeting, he noted:
“Dear fellow citizens!
Esteemed partners around the world!
I am very pleased to congratulate you on this important event that unites people on the planet in the desire to treat majestic mountains with care and to recognize our responsibility for their preservation.
Today, climate change is particularly acutely felt in mountainous regions, manifesting itself in the form of glacial melting, reduced snow cover, as well as landslides and floods. The need to take measures to adapt to these changes and strengthen the resilience of ecosystems and mountain communities is becoming increasingly urgent.
As part of the initiative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, S.N. Japarov, and the resolution of the UN General Assembly, the Decade of Action for Mountain Development is being implemented from 2023 to 2027. Kyrgyzstan is actively participating in shaping the international agenda in the field of mountain development and continues to strengthen its partnership ties. At the national level, the government is taking steps to improve the socio-economic conditions in mountainous areas through infrastructure development, road modernization, and the introduction of digital services, as well as supporting tourism, agriculture, and the green economy.
On this important day for all of us, I urge each of you, citizens of Kyrgyzstan, as well as international partners, to contribute to the sustainable development of mountains: to make decisions based on respect for nature, to protect flora and fauna, to develop innovative approaches, and to promote international cooperation in these areas.
The preservation of biodiversity, traditional knowledge, and living in harmony with nature, the rational use of natural resources, and the protection of mountain ecosystems are the tasks that lie ahead of us and future generations.
May the mountains continue to grant us strength, inspiration, and confidence in tomorrow.
May they serve as a symbol of peace, harmony, and a sustainable future for all peoples.
