Askar Ismailov emphasizes the need for immediate action from the authorities of Kazakhstan, according to Ulysmedia.kz.
The expert described the worst possible scenario for the country's oil sector, pointing to its potential consequences for the entire economy. The forecast consists of five key risks:
- Complete inaccessibility of the CPC pipeline;
- The Orenburg gas processing plant refuses to accept gas from Karachaganak;
- Emergency shutdowns at three oil refineries;
- The BTC pipeline does not accept oil due to chlorinated organics;
- Sanctions on the Kazakhstan-China pipeline.
— The probability of all these factors occurring simultaneously is 1÷2%, however, they are all based on previously occurred incidents. Therefore, it is extremely important to develop action strategies in advance in case they materialize: to identify alternative gas sources for the population; to find suppliers of fuel and lubricants; to develop a heating plan for buildings using gas in the winter period; this will require joint efforts not only from the Ministry of Energy but also from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Transport, — Ismailov added in his Telegram channel Pace.
