- Kyrgyzstan has achieved complete self-sufficiency in 6 out of 9 key food products, which has been made possible through coordinated systemic work between government structures, farmers, processors, and cooperatives. This was announced by President Sadyr Japarov at the IV People's Kurultai on December 25.

The President noted that agriculture plays a key role for the country, where 58% of the population lives in rural areas, ensuring social stability, food security, and regional growth.

“The labor of numerous farmers in every district and village lays the foundation for the future of our country. Therefore, the agricultural sector is one of the priorities of state policy. We can confidently say that for six out of nine key food products, the country fully meets its needs. This is the result of the joint efforts of the state, farmers, processors, and cooperatives,” Japarov emphasized.

Furthermore, he highlighted that thanks to accessible loans, many farmers can renew their farms, acquire breeding livestock, and modernize equipment by implementing new technologies.

“Seed farms and nurseries receive support, and access to mineral fertilizers is expanding. We are also creating agro-industrial clusters, which represent a new architecture for the industry. These clusters unite farmers, processors, logistics, services, and financial institutions into a single system. This model ensures a complete production cycle—from sowing to the release of finished products, contributing to the formation of new production chains and export directions,” the president explained.

According to Japarov, the pace of development in the processing industry has made it one of the most dynamically growing sectors of the economy.

“This means that more raw materials are processed in the domestic market, thousands of jobs are created, and the economies of the regions are strengthened,” he concluded.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Kyrgyzstan fully provides itself with six socially significant products, including potatoes, milk, meat (beef and lamb), vegetables, eggs, and sugar. The needs for the remaining three products are partially met through imports: bakery products (grains), vegetable oil, fruits, and berries.
