According to the director of the Department of Customs-Tariff and Non-Tariff Regulation of the EEC, Vaagn Kazaryan, this measure has already demonstrated its effectiveness in previous years. He noted that the physicochemical properties of precious metals allow them to be used in various industries, while sources of primary raw materials are becoming increasingly limited.

Currently, the applicable import duty rates on waste and scrap of precious metals are 15% of the customs value. The new zero rate will come into effect 30 days after the official publication of the decision.

According to previous decisions of the EEC Board, the zero rate for the import of these goods was in effect since June 2015 and will remain in effect until the end of 2025.
