The village of Chögöm, located 110 kilometers from the district center of the Aravan district, has about 90 households and is situated among the picturesque mountains of Kichi-Alai, at the source of the Ak-Buura River.

Local resident Abduvahab Moniev shared a story explaining the origin of the village's name, which is at an altitude of 1800 to 2600 meters. He noted that due to the mountainous surroundings, a fortification was once built at the entrance to the village for protection against enemy attacks. “Parts of this fortification have survived to this day, and although it is partially destroyed, its original appearance can still be seen. In those times, when this area was mentioned, the words 'chegin' or 'chebin' were used, and perhaps over time they transformed into the name Chögöm,” he said.

At the upper part of the village is the picturesque pasture of Zagyra. “This place is distinguished by its beauty. Although the word Zagyra has several meanings, in our village it is associated with an orphan. Previously, children left without parents and care were called 'zagyra'. On the territory where these people lived, there is still a large red stone, and this place is now known as 'the place of Zagyra',” added A. Moniev.

The majority of the population of the village of Chögöm is engaged in livestock farming.
