The head of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security, Abdykarim Alimbaev, shared information about how conflicts at the borders were handled during the Soviet Union era on the "Birinchi Radio" broadcast on January 14.

According to him, clashes with citizens of neighboring countries were recorded in the Batken region as early as 1974 and 1989. At that time, the Soviet authorities responded to such incidents by sending military units to conflict zones, imposing curfews, and taking measures to stabilize the situation and reduce tension.

He also noted that after the collapse of the USSR, each of the republics, becoming independent states, was obliged to address the definition of their borders.

“If we had immediately started clarifying the borders back then, today the development and growth would be much more noticeable,” Alimbaev believes.
