Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision closed a fast food outlet in Bishkek after mass poisoning with shawarma

According to preliminary data, the first symptoms of poisoning in the victims began to manifest at different times throughout the day on January 15, 2026, prompting them to seek help at the Republican Clinical Infectious Disease Hospital. Medical assistance was provided by doctors, and clinical samples were taken for subsequent laboratory analysis.

All the victims had consumed shawarma purchased from this establishment on the same day. In response to this incident, employees of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision Center of Bishkek conducted an unscheduled inspection of the establishment. Samples of ingredients, swabs from kitchen equipment, and remnants of finished products were collected for laboratory analysis. An examination of the staff for intestinal infection carriers was also conducted.

As a result of the inspection, three protocols for violations were drawn up, and decisions were made to impose fines totaling 41,000 soms under articles 80, 214 part 1, and 214 part 5 of the Code of Offenses of the Kyrgyz Republic. Additionally, the fast food manager was instructed to close the establishment starting January 15, and it was sealed.
