In an interview with the Kabar agency, Aydar Amrebaev, director of the Center for Comparative Political Studies of Kazakhstan, highlighted the changes that have occurred in Kyrgyzstan since the inauguration of President Sadyr Japarov.
The expert noted that under Japarov's leadership, the country has experienced economic growth of 11.1% — one of the highest rates in Central Asia.
“The nationalization of the Kumtor deposit has been a significant step. Previously, the proceeds from its operation went into private hands, but now they are directed to the state budget. This, in turn, leads to increased wages, especially for social workers, doctors, and teachers. Additionally, Kyrgyzstan is undergoing noticeable changes, particularly in the tourism sector. Entrepreneurs report a decrease in the level of corruption, which creates favorable conditions for foreign investments. The fight against corruption has been one of the key tasks of the president, and he has achieved significant success in this area,” he added.
Aydar Amrebaev also emphasized that President Japarov has managed to strengthen Kyrgyzstan's authority among the leaders of Central Asia by resolving important border issues with neighboring countries.
“Border issues were relevant not only for Kyrgyzstan but for the entire Central region. After their resolution, stability was established in the region, which enhanced Kyrgyzstan's reputation and trust in Central Asia as a whole. This contributed to an influx of investments and increased interest from major powers. Kyrgyzstan played an important role in this process. Previously, there was tension, and foreign investors were wary of instability, but now friendly relations are developing. President Japarov has demonstrated the political will of the Kyrgyz people for change, a desire for peace and joint prosperity, presenting Kyrgyzstan as a civilized and open state in Central Asia. Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan continue to strengthen their cooperation,” he noted.
The expert also highlighted that with Kazakhstan's support, Kyrgyzstan is opening new horizons for transport and logistics connections between the East and West, as well as the North and South. In particular, the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway creates a multiplicative effect in logistics, attracting the attention of international markets.
“Business activity in our countries is growing. For example, Sadyr Japarov is actively opening doors for foreign investments, including from Kazakhstan, making confident decisions on all bilateral and regional issues. His five-year presidency can be characterized as a period of positive changes that reflect the will of the people and national interests,” concluded Aydar Amrebaev.
