The Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh heard information on the epidemiological situation regarding hepatitis in the republic.

Today, February 24, during its meeting, the Committee on Labor, Health, Women's Affairs, and Social Issues of the Jogorku Kenesh reviewed the report of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan on the current epidemiological situation and measures for the prevention of hepatitis in the country.

Deputy Minister of Health Bakytbek Kadyraliev reported that in 2025, Kyrgyzstan recorded 8,555 cases of acute viral hepatitis, while in 2024, the number of cases was 21,195. "Thus, the incidence rate has decreased by 2.4 times," he noted, adding that as of January 1, 2026, 578 liver transplant surgeries had been performed.

During the discussion, Deputy Jylzyz Egenberdieva emphasized the importance of accelerating the screening program for hepatitis B and C, as well as creating a special registry. She also expressed the opinion that vaccination should only be conducted after appropriate laboratory studies.

Deputy Nurjamal Torobekova raised the issue of providing the population with clean drinking water, pointing out that the lack of water contributes to the increase in infectious diseases.

Committee Chair Gulsunkan Junushalieva raised the question of the need to strengthen preventive measures and timely provision of medical institutions with necessary medicines, tests, and vaccines. Director of the Republican Center for the Control of Hematogenic Viral Hepatitis and HIV Umutkan Chokmorova reported that 492 million soms are allocated for these purposes in 2026.

Deputy Gulnara Baatyrova also noted the importance of enhancing the scientific and analytical potential of the National Institute of Public Health and called for increasing public awareness about the issues of vaccine refusal. Deputy Ulukbek Karybek uulu emphasized the need to strengthen the mechanisms of social protection for citizens suffering from hepatitis.

Deputy Bolotbek Borbiev shared a message from the residents of the city of Tash-Kumyr, who reported an increase in viral hepatitis cases. He pointed out that one of the main reasons for this is the lack of access to clean drinking water and urged all responsible authorities to take measures to address this problem.
