At the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, taking place at the UN headquarters in New York, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Edil Baisalov, delivered an important speech.

In his address, he emphasized that the Kyrgyz Republic is unwaveringly committed to the ideals of gender equality, the protection of the rights of women and girls, as well as fulfilling international obligations as outlined in the Beijing Declaration, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Baisalov highlighted that under the leadership of President Sadyr Japarov, the country is implementing a consistent policy aimed at strengthening the rule of law, expanding economic opportunities for women, and actively combating violence against them. He noted that Kyrgyzstan adheres to the principle of zero tolerance for such actions and continues to improve legislative measures and protection mechanisms.

In his speech, he also pointed out the importance of adhering to international law and the principles of the UN Charter, as well as the necessity of protecting civilians, especially women and children, in the context of modern conflicts.

“The world cannot adequately speak about women's rights while ignoring the suffering of women in conflict zones. The protection of women must become an integral part of international security,” Edil Baisalov stated.

The head of the Kyrgyz delegation also called on the UN to set an example in matters of equality.

“After nearly eighty years of our Organization's existence, it is time for a woman to be appointed as the UN Secretary-General,” he added, emphasizing the importance of this initiative.

At the current session, the delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic is actively working, consisting of representatives from the Supreme Court, the General Prosecutor's Office, several ministries, and the Ombudsman Institute. The delegation is actively participating in plenary sessions, thematic discussions, and other side events.

Additionally, various national events and presentations aimed at promoting women's rights, strengthening justice, and expanding opportunities for women and girls are planned as part of the session.
