"Following Destiny" introduces Mongolian readers to Greek non-fiction literature

The presentation of the book titled “Following Destiny, Route N1, Greece-Poland-Uzbekistan-Ukraine-Cyprus,” written by Greek author and statesman Dr. Dimitris Bakolas, took place with the support of the Union of Writers of Mongolia. This popular science work tells the unusual life journey of the author, who many compare to Odysseus.

The first part of this work, known as “Following Destiny,” was awarded the title of one of the most outstanding non-fiction books in Greece in 2023. The Mongolian translation of this book appeared in Ulaanbaatar in 2024 and was warmly received by readers. This year, Dr. Bakolas's second book was also translated into Mongolian, which received an award as the best foreign non-fiction work from the Union of Writers of Mongolia.


Dimitris Bakolas shared that his love for Mongolia was born during his first visit when he was impressed by the richness of the cultural traditions and the natural beauty of the country. He also noted that his company continues to invest in the economy of Mongolia.

Participants of the event expressed their best wishes to Dr. Bakolas in his future creative endeavors.

Dr. Dimitris Bakolas is the president of European Profiles Greece Profiles and holds a PhD in computer linguistics from Kyiv University. At the beginning of his professional career, he taught at this university and worked on the development of information retrieval systems in Ukraine. After returning to Greece, from 1981 to 1984, he worked as a systems engineer at companies such as Texas Instruments and Tandem Computers.

From 1985 to 1990, he worked at the European Committee for Standardization (CEN/CENELEC) in Brussels, where he participated in the creation of the English-Greek computer translation system “SYSTRAN” in Luxembourg. In 1990, he founded the Institute of Information Technologies at the Greek Center for Productivity, where he served as director until 1995, and this institution became one of the leading ones in Greece in the field of vocational training and consulting in information technology. Since 1991, he has been serving as a consultant for international projects for European Profiles S.A., and since 1996, he has held the position of president and CEO of this company.

He is a member of various expert groups of the European Union and participated in the bilateral cooperation of the Greek government from 1990 to 1995. His expertise is sought as an advisor for government structures in Moldova, Serbia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Egypt. Bakolas has also led many projects funded by the EU and the World Bank in the areas of SMEs, institutional development, education, tourism, and social services.

He has extensive experience working in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as in the Mediterranean. As an author of numerous articles, studies, and books, Bakolas is fluent in English and Russian, and also speaks French, German, Polish, and Ukrainian. His work “Following Destiny. Route No. 1: Greece-Poland-Uzbekistan-Ukraine-Cyprus” has been translated and published in Russian, Ukrainian, and Mongolian.

Dimitris Bakolas has significant experience working in Arab countries and Africa, and is also the author of numerous articles and books in Russian, English, Greek, and Ukrainian.

He is fluent in English and Russian and also knows French, German, Polish, and Ukrainian.

Non-fiction works, like fiction, can evoke emotions in the reader; however, they describe real events and people, unlike the fictional characters of literary works.
