A criminal case has been initiated against the editor-in-chief
According to Kazakh media, searches are being conducted at the Orda.kz office and at the home of editor-in-chief Gulnara Bazhkenova, as reported by the city police.
“In one of the articles published in 2024, false information was posted regarding the detention of a law enforcement officer for accepting a bribe. However, this fact was not confirmed. Bazhkenova's actions led to the formation of a false impression about the professional activities of the officer, which damaged his reputation. Furthermore, another article published distorted data about the amount and reasons for the damage in a property dispute, which also misled the public and harmed the reputation of the complainant,” the police reported.
Other complaints from victims regarding materials published by Orda.kz are also being considered.
It is worth noting that in September, Orda published a report on the detention of Murat Nurtleu, the then Minister of Foreign Affairs. Later, the Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva noted that this information was "unconfirmed." The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aibek Smadiyarov, also denied this information. Nurtleu himself stated that he does not intend to file a lawsuit or react to rumors.
