The Bayangol district of Ulaanbaatar and the Bayan-Öndör somon located in the Orkhon aimag have officially been included in the Global Network of Learning Cities of UNESCO.

This event marks the first for Mongolia within this network, which unites 498 cities worldwide, demonstrating leadership in lifelong learning and providing accessible educational opportunities for all residents.

Joining the network opens new horizons for Mongolia in the field of international cooperation aimed at fostering a culture of continuous learning, improving access to education, and implementing knowledge-based urban development strategies.

Transforming the city into a learning platform is the result of collaborative efforts among local authorities, educational institutions, businesses, and active citizens involved in the local development process. This initiates a comprehensive approach to creating a learning ecosystem that promotes personal and societal progress.

The Global Network of Learning Cities of UNESCO represents an international association that offers inspiration and best practices for developing educational policies.

Since its establishment in 2013 at the initiative of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, the Global Network of Learning Cities has included 498 cities from 91 countries. In 2025, 72 cities from 46 countries joined, among which 13 cities received the status of learning city for the first time.
