Increased activity of Mount Etna has been recorded in Italy — it has erupted a lava fountain reaching heights of up to 400 meters. This is reported in an article by the publication Virgilio. Thick clouds of smoke and ash have risen into the air. Due to intensified volcanic tremors and Strombolian activity, the civil protection department has declared a yellow threat level.

This measure has been implemented due to the increase in the emission of hot rocks and ash, which are rising to significant heights above the crater. Experts warn of the possibility of further increases in volcanic activity.

Residents of nearby settlements are strongly advised to monitor official updates from the civil protection department and to strictly follow the authorities' instructions.

Etna is considered the largest active volcano in Italy and one of the most active in the world. The latest eruptions were recorded on June 2, 2025. Throughout its long history, which spans about 500,000 years, the volcano has experienced at least 2,700 eruptions. Since 2013, it has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
