Yoon Suk Yeol is under investigation on charges related to rebellion and other offenses. In July 2025, he was re-arrested on charges of obstructing justice.
According to South Korean law, the maximum period of detention during the first-instance trial is six months; however, the court may extend this period if new charges arise. It is expected that the former president will be detained again for another six months.
The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Korea approved the impeachment of Yoon Suk Yeol on April 4, 2025, related to his unsuccessful attempt to impose martial law in December 2024, which led to his official removal from office.
On January 26, 2025, he was formally charged with organizing a rebellion.
