On Wednesday morning, the eruption of Mount Merapi occurred in the Indonesian province of West Sumatra, which became known due to the volcanic ash being ejected to a height of 1,600 meters above the crater, reports the ANTARA agency.

According to information provided by Ahmad Rifandi, an employee of the volcano observation post, the eruption took place at 09:36 local time (05:36 Moscow time).

Currently, the volcano has been assigned a second level of danger. The Indonesian Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Risk Reduction (PVMBG) has issued a series of recommendations, including a ban on any activities for local residents and tourists within a three-kilometer radius of the active zone.

In addition, PVMBG warned of a potential threat of cold lava flows.
