According to the agency's data, an unknown assailant fired several shots at the general in one of the residential complexes on Volokolamskoye Highway, after which they fled the scene of the incident.
"The victim was hospitalized in one of the city's hospitals," the Investigative Committee added.According to "Kommersant," around 07:00, the lieutenant general left his apartment, heading to work. A service car with a driver was waiting for him downstairs. Upon exiting, Alekseev encountered an unknown individual who was likely posing as a food courier. It is believed that the attacker may have been a woman; she injured the general in the arm and leg, and when he attempted to take the gun from her, also shot him in the chest.
The general is in intensive care in serious condition, as one of the bullets hit vital organs. However, there is currently no official information regarding his condition and the severity of his injuries.An investigation into the incident has been initiated.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, as reported by RBC, characterized the assassination attempt on Alekseev as a terrorist act and stated that its goal is to undermine the negotiation process with Ukraine.
Lavrov refrained from making predictions regarding the future course of negotiations, noting that this is within the competence of the country's top leadership.
"This terrorist act once again confirmed the regime's [of Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky's focus on constant provocations, which, in turn, are aimed at destroying the negotiation process, and the regime's readiness to do everything to convince its Western sponsors not to lag behind the U.S. in their efforts to prevent a just settlement," Lavrov stated.
