The operation was carried out as part of comprehensive counterintelligence measures aimed at protecting strategically important facilities and ensuring the safety of citizens.
According to the intelligence service, the terrorists planned attacks on key infrastructure facilities and representatives of religious groups in Azerbaijan. Among the alleged targets were the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline, the Israeli embassy, one of the leaders of the Mountain Jews, and an Ashkenazi synagogue.
The SSS also reported that three explosive devices were smuggled into the country, which were intercepted before being handed over to third parties, preventing possible casualties and destruction.
As a result of the investigation, several citizens of Azerbaijan have been brought to justice. The court found four of them guilty, sentencing them to 6 years and 6 months in prison. Two others are under indictment for preparing an assassination attempt on a public figure, while one is charged with illegal possession of weapons and explosives. For these defendants, a preventive measure of arrest has been chosen.
