Tokayev signed the new Constitution of Kazakhstan

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed a new Constitution for the country, adopted following a nationwide referendum. The head of the republic assured that the year 2026 will be a time of total political and legal transformation.

At the ceremonial event dedicated to the adoption of the new Constitution, Tokayev emphasized the need to reform existing institutions and create new ones, as well as to structurally and personnel-wise renew them.

In the near future, five new bills related to the Constitution will be submitted to parliament, in addition to which amendments will need to be made to eight existing laws and over 60 articles in the main codes. "This path, considering the current global instability and turbulence, will be extremely difficult and full of obstacles. But only those who move forward will be able to overcome any difficulties," the president emphasized.

The initiator of these changes was Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who proposed transitioning to a unicameral parliamentary system in September of last year. As a result, more than 80% of the text of the Constitution was amended, including the restoration of the vice-presidential institution, appointed by the head of state. According to the results of the referendum held on March 15, 87.15% of voters supported the new text of the Constitution. The document will come into force on July 1.
