In an interview with Reuters, Zelensky noted that Washington is ready to approve these guarantees at a high level as soon as Ukraine meets the condition of withdrawing its military. He warned, however, that such a step could threaten the security of both Ukraine and Europe, as it would strengthen Russia's position in this strategically important region.
The President of Ukraine also expressed the opinion that the current situation in the Middle East is influencing the actions of US President Donald Trump. He noted that, in his view, Trump continues to choose a strategy of pressure on Ukraine. "Unfortunately, this is the case," Zelensky added.
According to the president, Russia, insisting on the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the east, hopes that Washington will gradually lose interest in negotiations and ultimately abandon them.
