Corruption in the GKNB. 6 National Security Employees Dismissed, 5 Arrested

The military prosecutor's office has initiated an investigation into a criminal case related to corruption in the State Committee for National Security (GKNB).

According to information provided by the press service of the GKNB on February 27, Eldar Jakypbekov, who previously held the position of head of the GKNB in Bishkek, is suspected of organizing a stable corruption scheme involving both GKNB employees and civilians for personal enrichment.

As part of the criminal case initiated under Article 336, Part 1 ("Corruption") of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan, 5 individuals have been detained and are currently in custody at the temporary detention facility of the Bishkek City Police Department and SIZO-1.

The GKNB's internal security service conducted an internal investigation, which resulted in:

- the dismissal of six national security employees;

- the removal from their positions and transfer to the GKNB's disposal of 6 employees;

- the exclusion of one candidate for service in the GKNB;

- disciplinary actions taken against 8 GKNB employees.

The press service noted that work to identify other GKNB employees involved in corruption schemes will continue.
