At the border post "Kyzyl-Kiya" in the Batken region, phytosanitary control officers prevented the import of a significant batch of seedlings. According to the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, 80,520 seedlings from Uzbekistan were stopped while attempting to cross the border.

The Department of Chemicalization, Plant Protection, and Quarantine made the decision to turn the trucks back based on a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers adopted on February 13, 2026. This document introduces a temporary ban on the import of certain varieties of fruit and berry crops.

During the inspection, it was found that the plant varieties that were attempted to be imported are not on the list of those permitted for import. As a result, 80,520 seedlings were returned to Uzbekistan.

The Batken office of the department continues to closely monitor the situation, following the policy of protecting the local agricultural sector. These measures are aimed at regulating the import of plant varieties and ensuring phytosanitary safety, the ministry emphasized.
