An international forum titled "National University - Support of the Nation" has started in Bishkek, dedicated to the centenary of the Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn.
This significant event involves representatives of the government, scholars, as well as teachers and staff from both local and foreign partner universities.
Opening the event, the university rector, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Dogdurbek Chontoев, noted that over the century, KNU has trained more than 192,000 specialists. "This is not just an educational institution, but a real intellectual center that has nurtured many generations of scientists, statesmen, diplomats, writers, teachers, and entrepreneurs. Here, ideas have been born that contribute to the progress of our country," he added.
Currently, about 30,000 students are enrolled at the university, with a teaching staff of approximately 3,000. Following the integration of Naryn, Talas, and Issyk-Kul universities into the structure of KNU, the total number of students has increased to over 45,000, and the number of teachers has exceeded 4,500, including more than 200 doctors of sciences, 570 candidates of sciences, 4 academicians, 6 corresponding members, as well as 2 national heroes of Kyrgyzstan and 2 winners of world olympiads.
"The National University will continue to be a key institution for training the professional personnel necessary for the country," emphasized Chontoев.
As part of the forum, plenary sessions are also taking place on the topics
"The Role of Higher Education in the Modern World. The Higher School of Kyrgyzstan in the Context of Global Challenges and Threats."
It is worth noting that from October 23 to 25, KNU is celebrating its centenary. It was founded on October 25, 1925, as the Kyrgyz Educational Institute, and in 1993 it received the status of the Kyrgyz State National University and has borne the name of Jusup Balasagyn since 2002.
Today, the university structure includes 14 institutes, 14 faculties, 4 colleges, 1 gymnasium, 4 research centers, and 14 dissertation councils.
