In Bishkek, the Emergency Medical Assistance Hospital is experiencing a shortage of oxygen concentrators. This became known thanks to a message from one of the readers of 24.kg.

A woman reported that her father, who was having difficulty breathing, was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

“He was diagnosed with pulmonary edema. There were no places for IV drips, and the oxygen machine is not functioning. We are not alone; there are other patients who also need oxygen and IV drips. How are they supposed to breathe?” the reader expressed her outrage.

In the medical institution, 24.kg clarified that in recent days there has been a sharp increase in the number of patients with acute respiratory infections, influenza, and pneumonia.

“Nevertheless, there are enough oxygen concentrators available. In the therapeutic department with 30 beds, there are 18 machines, and in the emergency medical assistance (reception) area, there are 8 out of 12 beds. Since the patient flow is high, our medical technicians quickly repair the equipment if it breaks down. Sometimes, 12 patients arrive in the reception area for 12 beds, and we connect those who need help first, depending on their saturation levels. We can provide 12 concentrators, but we also take into account the presence of other diseases (such as kidney or heart issues),” the administration of the institution reported.

Additionally, the hospital mentioned that plans for the end of the year include the purchase of about five new oxygen concentrators to update and replenish supplies.
