In Kyrgyzstan, changes are planned for the admission rules to colleges and technical schools. The Ministry of Science, Higher Education, and Innovations has presented a draft of a new document.

With the introduction of the new education law in 2023, there arose a need to update the existing admission rules for institutions of secondary vocational education. What changes are being proposed?

According to the new proposals, individuals with primary vocational education will be able to enroll in secondary vocational education through accelerated programs. Admission to colleges, technical schools, and vocational schools based on basic or secondary general education will be conducted based on the results of nationwide testing.

For applicants entering grant-funded places or places with tuition fees based on secondary general education (11 grades), admission will also be carried out based on the results of nationwide testing, with the exception of specialties in the fields of culture, art, physical culture, and sports.

The competition for enrollment will open for those applicants whose results from the basic test (and for medical and pharmaceutical specialties — from both the basic and subject tests) meet or exceed the threshold set by the authorized body. Priority will be given to those who score the highest points.

Educational institutions will be able to introduce additional tests for the competitive selection of applicants for the specialties they offer.
