As stated in the proposals, according to the Constitution, a citizen of Kyrgyzstan aged between 40 and 70 years, possessing a higher legal education and at least 15 years of work experience in the legal field, including a minimum of 5 years as a judge, is eligible for the position of Supreme Court judge. Of these 5 years, 3 years must be served in the first instance, and 2 years in the second.
According to the new amendments, retirement for judges is possible after 20 years of judicial service, regardless of reaching the general retirement age.Furthermore, it is proposed to clarify that judges who retire after reaching the required years of service and have reached retirement age will receive a pension according to the general rules, as provided by the legislation on state pension social insurance.
The supplement to the appointed pension will be calculated as follows:
- for a judicial service of 15 to 20 years – a supplement of 1.5 times the appointed pension;
- for a service of 20 to 25 years – 2 times the appointed pension;
- for a service of 25 years and more – 2.5 times the appointed pension.
