According to Deputy Altynbek Kylchbaev, citizens of Kyrgyzstan in Russian prisons are facing difficulties in the process of being transferred back home. He shared this information at a meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh that deals with judicial and legal issues and the fight against crime.

“How long do you consider requests coming from abroad? Hundreds of our compatriots are in prisons in Russia, and many of them are being recruited to participate in military actions. Some are waiting for a response regarding their extradition for several months,” he noted.

Deputy Attorney General Umutkan Konkubaeva reported that in 2024, 128 citizens convicted abroad were returned to Kyrgyzstan, of which 118 were from Russia. In 2025, this number increased to 221, and decisions have already been made in 124 cases involving Kyrgyz citizens, with their transfer expected.

She also emphasized that currently, there are 1,210 citizens of Kyrgyzstan in Russian prisons. Extradition procedures can take a long time, as it is a complex intergovernmental process. It is necessary to wait for a court decision in Russia, which can also take months, added Umutkan Konkubaeva.
