As of 2025, there are two citizens of Mongolia in the prisons of Kyrgyzstan. This was reported at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Judicial System, Law Enforcement, and the Fight Against Crime by Deputy Prosecutor General Umutkan Konkubaeva.

During the meeting, she presented to the deputies a draft agreement on extradition, which was signed on July 21 of last year during the state visit of the President of Mongolia to Kyrgyzstan.

Konkubaeva noted that about 50 citizens of Kyrgyzstan live in Mongolia, but there are no Kyrgyz citizens among the prisoners there.

“Although criminal cases were initiated, the absence of elements of a crime did not lead to the prosecution of citizens. There were cases of violations of migration legislation, as a result of which Kyrgyz citizens were deported,” she added.

The Deputy Prosecutor General emphasized that given the presence of convicted citizens of Mongolia in Kyrgyzstan and requests for extradition, it is necessary to develop a legal framework for the exchange of prisoners between the two states.

Following the discussion, the deputies supported the draft law on the ratification of this agreement in the first reading.
