At an extraordinary meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on Industry, Transport, Energy, Architecture, and Construction on December 26, the chief architect of the general plan for Bishkek, Irina Grishechkina, made a statement that the capital does not require a metro.
According to Grishechkina, the effectiveness of a metro system depends on population density and the number of passengers, which makes its construction very costly, and operation even more expensive. Instead, she suggested focusing on improving the public transport system to avoid unnecessary expenses.
The architect also noted that during public discussions, the idea of building a monorail along the Ala-Archa and Alamedin rivers was expressed. However, she expressed doubts about this initiative, pointing out that such routes are not optimal, as they require additional trips and have a number of aesthetic drawbacks. "Building a monorail along the rivers is pointless," Grishechkina concluded.

Nevertheless, the architect acknowledged that in the future, if the pace of the city's development increases, the need for a metro may arise. "This is not a final decision; it's just that at the moment, a metro is not needed," she added.
