At a recent event dedicated to discussing the General Plan for the development of the capital, the developers of the document answered questions from residents about the future of green spaces in Bishkek. They assured that they would not only preserve the existing green areas but also significantly increase them, including along rivers and boulevards.
Kalycha Umuralieva, a representative of the public fund "Our Right," reminded that in 1991, several parks, such as Dubovy, Karagach Grove, and others, were granted the status of specially protected natural areas. However, the General Plan retains this status only for Karagach Grove. She inquired with the municipality about the fate of the other parks in the city and how the General Plan intends to provide residents with green spaces by 2050.
According to Umuralieva, data from the municipal enterprise "Bishkekzelenkhoz" indicates that there are currently only 6 square meters of green space per person, while international standards require this figure to be 24 square meters.
In response, the Russian developers of the General Plan confirmed that the status of all parks would remain unchanged, and the area of green zones would increase by 2,400 hectares.
Irina Grishechkina, the chief architect of the General Plan, noted that it is extremely important to ensure greening along roads, as this contributes to creating a comfortable urban environment for residents.
