At a recent public hearing dedicated to the master plan for the development of Bishkek until 2050, city residents proposed the initiative to turn Moscow and Pushkin streets into pedestrian zones. In response to this proposal, the city administration presented its arguments.

In an official statement, the municipality noted that Moscow Street is an important one-way thoroughfare and plays a key role in the transportation system, interacting with Toktogul Street.

“If a decision is made to close Moscow Street to motorists, it could worsen the traffic situation in the central part of the city due to changes in traffic flows and increased load on alternative routes. At the same time, the possibility of creating a pedestrian zone on Pushkin Street is being considered. This option will be studied provided that the necessary approvals and consent from the city authorities are obtained,” the city administration's message stated.
