As part of the public hearings regarding the Master Plan for the development of Bishkek until 2050, citizens proposed transforming Moscow and Pushkin Streets into pedestrian zones. This issue was commented on by representatives of the city administration.
The municipality noted that Moscow Street is an important one-way thoroughfare closely linked to Toktogul Street. Closing this street to vehicles could worsen the traffic situation in the city center, as it would lead to a redistribution of traffic flow and increase the load on other roadways.
As for Pushkin Street, its potential to become a pedestrian zone may be discussed, provided that approval is obtained from the Bishkek city administration, the agency added.
