According to the General Development Plan for Bishkek until 2050, a tram line is planned to be laid, which will connect the 12th microdistrict with the city center and further — to the Osh market. This information was announced at the city hall.
As noted by the department, the tram route will run along Aaly Tokombaev Avenue, starting from the 12th microdistrict and continuing along Kyiv Street to the Osh market.
“The sequence of construction works and routes will be determined in the next stages of design, including the creation of a feasibility study,” the statement clarifies.
In addition, residents have proposed creating a tram line that would circle the entire city.
In this regard, the municipality explained that the General Plan provides for tram lines in directions with the highest passenger traffic, connecting key areas with high residential density and linking them to the city center.
For this reason, the tram line that would run around the city would not be able to efficiently carry passengers, the city hall added.
