The Bishkek city administration commented on citizens' appeals regarding the General Plan for the development of the capital until 2050. As part of this plan, the creation of three new rapid public transport systems with increased capacity is envisaged:
- urban electric train,
- tram,
- metrobuses.
There are also plans to develop dedicated lanes for non-rail public transport, although specific types of transport for 2050 have not yet been specified. These could include buses, electric buses, trolleybuses, water buses, or other modern non-rail solutions.
According to the city administration, the main goal of the General Plan is to increase the attractiveness of public transport for residents. This will be achieved by implementing rapid transport systems that are separated from the general traffic flow. "If public transport can move faster than private cars, avoiding traffic jams and ensuring passenger comfort, it is expected that the number of people preferring public transport will increase, while the share of those using private cars will decrease," the agency added.
