During the discussion of the bill concerning the tightening of penalties for driving under the influence of alcohol, Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Bolot Ibragimov emphasized that merely increasing prison sentences is not enough. He also insists on the need to raise the amount of fines.
Additionally, he proposed to increase the period of driver's license suspension for repeat offenses compared to the first case. As a punitive measure for offenders, the introduction of mandatory community service is also planned.
Ibragimov also advocated for increasing rewards for employees of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate (GUOBDD) who identify drivers under the influence of alcohol: from the current 10% of the fine amount to 20-30%. In his opinion, this will allow for more effective identification of offenders and help reduce the level of corruption.
He added that even in cases of traffic accidents that occurred under the influence of alcohol without injuries, a criminal case should be initiated.
