The recent meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on Agricultural Policy, Ecology, and Environmental Protection was marked by a report on the reduction of smog levels in Bishkek. The Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, Medera Mashiev, noted that the main sources of smog are:

The Minister emphasized that there has been a positive trend in reducing smog levels over the past two years. However, despite the reduction of loan rates for equipment and gas connections to private homes down to 3%, 97,317 houses still use coal and other types of fuel for heating.

The reduction in smog levels is also associated with the extinguishing of the landfill and the construction of a waste incineration plant. As part of the reclamation work, 3,000 saplings have been planted over an area of 5 hectares. Last year, as part of the "Zhashyl Muras" project, 8 million 233 thousand trees were planted across the republic, of which 38 thousand were in Bishkek.

In the country, there are 972,252 gasoline vehicles, 339,938 diesel vehicles, 56,900 gas-gasoline vehicles, 37 thousand hybrids, and 15,278 electric vehicles, which accounts for only 0.8% of the total number of vehicles.

The Minister added that in 2025, there were only 4,500 vehicles aged up to five years in the country. Active work is being carried out to impose fines totaling more than 3 million soms for atmospheric pollution by vehicles.

Deputy Nilufer Alimjanova inquired about the exact reduction in pollution indicators.

Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Ernest Jusupov clarified that monitoring of pollution levels is conducted in Bishkek, Osh, Kara-Balta, Tokmok, and Cholpon-Ata using 14 stationary posts and one automatic station. In the capital, 50 automatic sensors have been installed to monitor pollution in Issyk-Ata and Sokuluk.

He also noted that in the past, there were days when pollution levels exceeded the norm by 12 times, but now the indicators have improved.

Deputy Director of the Hydrometeorological Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (Kyrgyzhydromet) Daniyar Tologonov added that compared to 2023, the level of smog in Bishkek has significantly decreased, which is also related to the warm weather.
