Yesterday, March 18, at noon, local entrepreneurs, farmers, and residents gathered at the closed private livestock market in Tokmok, as reported by a Turmush correspondent. The participants of the event called for the market to be reopened, emphasizing its significance for the economic situation in the city and support for local businesses.

According to those present, the market is a key element in generating revenue for the city budget and stimulating agriculture in the region. The meeting was attended by the first deputy mayor, a city council member, and representatives of local services, who listened to the citizens' opinions and took note of them.

As a result of the discussion, it became known that on March 19 at 10:00 a.m. in the large hall of the city hall, there will be a meeting between the mayor and representatives of the initiative group, with the main issue being the resumption of the private livestock market's operations. Tokmok deputy Amantur Shamshibekov noted that the territory of the closed market will soon be transferred to state ownership.

“Previously, this was a private market. According to the city hall, only 30,000 to 50,000 soms were received in the local budget per month, while the market owner reported revenues of up to 300,000 soms. The area of this market is 2.9 hectares. We have already made the decision to transfer the land to state ownership, and the process of transferring it to the city hall's balance is currently underway,” he said.

Additionally, local residents and entrepreneurs plan to meet with the mayor in the city hall's meeting room to discuss the issue of resuming the livestock market's operations. If it becomes state-owned, this will significantly increase budget revenues. The market was closed by the order of the sanitary and epidemiological service.

Earlier, the city hall's press service reported that a decision was made to close the private livestock market in Tokmok starting January 1, 2026. This decision was made by authorized state bodies in accordance with the current legislation of Kyrgyzstan.

According to the information, the market operated on a commercial basis, charging fees for the placement and sale of agricultural animals. However, the owners did not provide the necessary investments for the development and maintenance of engineering, sanitary, and veterinary infrastructure.

Systematic violations of veterinary-sanitary, sanitary-epidemiological, and environmental standards, as well as non-compliance with safety requirements, became the grounds for closure. During inspections, the following were identified:

- Insufficient conditions for keeping and selling agricultural animals;
- Violations of veterinary rules that create a risk of spreading infectious diseases;
- Poor sanitary condition of the territory;
- Lack of basic sanitary and hygiene facilities, including toilets;
- Inadequate drainage and water diversion systems leading to pollution;
- Violations in the placement of trading facilities that do not comply with urban planning standards;
- Problems with road safety in the area of the market.

“Despite repeated orders and warnings from authorized bodies, the owners did not take measures to eliminate the violations and modernize the infrastructure. The closure of the livestock market is aimed at ensuring the safety and health protection of citizens, as well as preventing epizootic risks. The market's activities are suspended until the facility is brought into compliance with established sanitary, veterinary, and infrastructure requirements,” the city hall added.

The trade of agricultural animals in this area is suspended. During the closure, farmers and sellers are advised to look to other operating livestock markets in the region and use online platforms for remote sales of livestock. The sale of agricultural animals will be organized at specialized sites that meet the requirements. Additional information about the timeline for resuming the market's operations will be provided later. The city hall apologizes for the temporary inconvenience and thanks for understanding.
