Kyrgyzstan Held a Side Event in Geneva Dedicated to the Synergy of Global and Regional Disarmament Initiatives

On November 10, 2025, in Geneva, at the United Nations building, a side event organized by the Permanent Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic took place. The event was dedicated to strengthening the international disarmament and non-proliferation regime for weapons of mass destruction and was titled "Stability through the Synergy of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia." This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan.

Among the partners of this event were Ireland, Kazakhstan, Thailand, as well as international organizations such as the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs, UNIDIR, the ICRC, and ICAN. Participants discussed the significance of Central Asia as a nuclear-weapon-free region and its contribution to strengthening the international disarmament architecture.

Kyrgyzstan emphasized that support for the global and regional disarmament process is a priority in its foreign policy. During the discussions, particular attention was paid to the main international instruments that form the basis for security and the reduction of nuclear threats in the region.

The discussion also raised issues concerning regions and communities affected by the use and production of nuclear weapons, as well as the need for international cooperation for their rehabilitation and sustainable development.

The importance of exchanging experiences between nuclear-free regions and interaction among states, international organizations, and civil society was highlighted.

Furthermore, participants noted the necessity of practical steps for the institutionalization of the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia.
