A document has been signed that will help prevent illegal shipments of hazardous materials.

The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Japarov, has signed the Law "On the Ratification of the Updated Protocol to the Agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the International Atomic Energy Agency on the Application of Safeguards in Connection with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons."

The adoption of the Law took place on September 17, 2025, confirming its approval by the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The main goal of this law is to fulfill the internal procedures necessary for the entry into force of the specified protocol, as well as to harmonize the legal framework in the field of radiation safety with international standards and to fully utilize the technical cooperation program with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The law includes the ratification of the specified updated protocol, which aims to improve and expand measures to prevent the illegal trade and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and other dangerous materials.

In addition, the updated protocol provides for the exchange of information and control over the supply of small quantities of sensitive materials, such as chemicals, radioactive elements, and biological agents, potentially used for the creation of weapons.

The ratification of this protocol will create new opportunities for the country's progress in various fields, including science, technology, the economy, and international cooperation.

The law comes into force fifteen days after its official publication.
