The feature film "Kurak" from Kyrgyzstan has been included in the program of the 42nd International BOGOCINE-2025 Film Festival, which will take place from November 20 to 26 in the Colombian capital, Bogotá. This was reported by the Ministry of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Since its founding in 1984, the BOGOCINE festival has established itself as one of the most respected and oldest in Latin America. It has become an important platform for showcasing new directors and their debut feature films. Over the years, renowned creators such as Pedro Almodóvar, Bong Joon-ho, Isabel Coixet, Alejandro González Iñárritu, and Rodrigo García have been recognized at this festival.

The film "Kurak" is the only work from Central Asia participating this year. It will be screened in the main competition alongside 14 films from Latin America, Eastern Europe, Germany, Spain, and South Korea, marking its premiere in South America.

The film was created in collaboration between Kyrgyzstan, Switzerland, Serbia, France, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Italy. This is the largest international co-production project in the history of Central Asia. Its realization was made possible with the support of the Cinematography Department of the Ministry of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Plot of the film:
"Kurak" presents three interconnected stories of women facing violence and lawlessness in modern Kyrgyzstan. The directors combine elements of artistic realism, noir, and documentary chronicle, raising relevant social issues. The title of the film alludes to the traditional Kyrgyz art of kurak—patchwork sewing, symbolizing a unified mosaic made up of various destinies.
