As a result of the competitive selection, which received 16 applications, the following winners were chosen:
- Kyrgyz National Agrarian University named after K.I. Skryabin,
- Osh Forestry,
- State Natural Park "Chon-Kemin",
- Kara-Kulja Forestry.
According to information from KNAU, the competition was held as part of the project "Sustainability of Regional Pastoral Communities - ADAPT".
On December 19, grant agreements concerning the allocation of financial resources for these four organizations were signed at the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Food Processing Industry. The total grant amount is 534 thousand US dollars.
According to the project, each of the four nurseries will annually produce up to 2 million seedlings of various tree species, including nut, fruit-berry, and ornamental plants. These seedlings will be available to forestry enterprises, forest users, and other interested parties.
As part of this project, a modern nursery will be established on 5 hectares of the KNAU training and experimental farm for the cultivation of seedlings and saplings of coniferous, deciduous, and fruit-berry crops developed in the In vitro scientific production laboratory.
The main goal of creating the nursery is to support the greening of the capital of Kyrgyzstan, the city of Bishkek, and its border areas by providing the city administration with quality planting materials of coniferous, deciduous, and ornamental trees. It is also planned to provide farmers with certified, virus-free, and regionally adapted seedlings of fruit-berry crops.
Under the signed grant agreement, KNAU will receive 11 million 950 thousand soms from the project "Sustainability of Regional Pastoral Communities - ADAPT". Work on organizing the nursery (including fencing, drilling a well, electrification, and setting up the nursery) will begin in early 2026, allowing for the cultivation of quality planting material from that time.
By creating a new nursery and integrating it with the In vitro scientific production laboratory, KNAU will become an active participant in the National Program "Zhashyl Muras" and will contribute to the implementation of an important project aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change. At the new nursery, students and farmers will have the opportunity for practical training, and scientists will be able to conduct research for the production of quality and regionally adapted planting material.
